What I Do
I started with an ability to draw. Good education and years of practice, teamed with others who shared their expertise, has made me a creative, productive and rewarding workhorse, whatever the task.
I Create.
I make myself an integral part of your business and combine technology, aesthetics and creative thinking to communicate a message that captures the eyes of your market.
I Process.
I develop creative concepts, tidy up initial ideas and methodically rework designs to hand over well constructed documents, fixing colours, typography, consistencies, etc, to make files print ready or suitable for digital application.
I Build.
I take 2D ideas and expand them into 3D. Whether the need is for a realistic visualisation, a printable illustration, engineering drawings or a CAM ready model, I have the ability to add a new dimension.
My Story
I travelled a bit as a youngster and, finding an aptitude for art, got my graphics education in Leeds. Work started at the drawing board, but as Macs were bought to provide typesetting capabilities I quickly adopted the new working method for design. Keeping up with tech and discovering new skills has been a necessity but a challenge that I’ve always enjoyed and excelled in.
I developed a career with various design and advertising agencies before spending many years with a design studio servicing companies like In-toto Kitchens, NG Bailey, Hallmark and Asda. After designing marcoms for Leeds Building Society and Bellway homes in another agency I freelanced serially in organisations like Elmwood Design, PBFA, the Jupiter Prestige Group, Technik (part of Branded) and Morrisons’ in-house studio. I’ve also freelanced for company’s up and down the country (and in Denmark) and developed skills in 3D. More recently I’ve worked in a busy studio where my technical knowledge helped to standardise their design process and more than double the company’s production capacity.
I’m delighted to get creative with branding or conceptual design for advertising or print, I’m equally content to join a team, roll up my sleeves and get stuck into packaging, large format POS, or imposing artworks in a print shop. My capabilities and skills are ultimately transferable to any area of graphic communication. My portfolio shows examples of the kind of work I’ve put my enthusiasm into.
